Colin Broadbelt is a sports orthopedic physical therapist and CEO of Pro-Active Physical Therapy in Santa Monica, California.  Mr. Broadbelt came to the profession of physical therapy, not only as a result of the aches and pains he deservedly earned through years of self abuse from various athletic endeavors, but also by witnessing the dramatic relief his father derived from myofascial therapy.  (Before finding a myofascial therapist, his father had suffered for several years, due to the intense pain from temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).  He had so much difficulty chewing food that he usually used a blender to reduce his foods to liquid form).

At the age of seventeen, Colin enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a medical corpsman with both the Marine Corps Infantry and the Reconnaissance Rangers.  Following his military service, Mr. Broadbelt graduated from Penn. State University with a degree in French/Business.  He also spent his junior year abroad in Montpellier, France, where he allegedly studied only the French language.

Eventually, Mr. Broadbelt went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 1995.  Prior to opening his private practice, Mr. Broadbelt worked at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, in both their inpatient and orthopedic settings.  Working for St. John’s, Colin was introduced to treating professional athletes, while he traveled with the women’s professional volleyball tour throughout California.

Over the past twelve years, Colin Broadbelt has worked with individual athletes ranging from week-end warriors to collegiate, professional, and Olympic athletes.  He has treated members of the FBI, US Military, Police, LAFD, as well as notable members of the entertainment community.  In addition, Mr. Broadbelt specializes in and enjoys working with the geriatric population.  While still in physical therapy school, Mr. Broadbelt researched and submitted his grant research proposal to study the most effective approaches to weight bearing exercise for the elderly population.

Disappointed by the failures of traditional physical therapy treatments, Colin Broadbelt pursued alternative approaches to sports orthopedic rehabilitation that include numerous certifications in myofascial and manual therapy such as: Active Release Techniques, the Graston Technique, Active Isolated Stretching Techniques, and many others.  Treatments at Pro-Active Physical Therapy also utilize the latest in technology, with cold laser and photon therapy accompanying the manual therapy techniques that Mr. Broadbelt employs.

A long-time resident of the Santa Monica/Venice community, Mr. Broadbelt developed an intimate style of treatment that is strictly one-on-one time with the physical therapist.  His patients receive fifty minutes of hands-on physical therapy (roughly twice the national average for a physical therapy visit), and no part of the treatment is passed off to assistants or aides.

Mr. Broadbelt is ecstatically married to his beautiful wife Kathy, and they have three canine kids - Marley, Maggie,

and Teddy.

Her interest in Physical Therapy was first sparked during high school, while volunteering at the Rehabilitation Department of Northridge Hospital. Kathy went on to acquire her degree in physical therapy from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles. After graduation, she took her first position as a physical therapist at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills. This particular Kaiser served as a neurological injury center and offered a great opportunity for Ms. Lynch to fine tune her skills in that area. As a senior staff member, Kathy dedicated over 12 years to working as an acute inpatient physical therapist, and helped coordinate a large P.T. student training program.

Ms. Lynch has honed her skills in teaching throughout the years working with patients, families, and caregivers, as well as physical therapy students, nursing staffs, and hospital transportation staffs. She has had the opportunity to help design and teach a variety of classes covering body mechanics, CVA rehabilitation, spinal care, as well as preventive injury exercise classes. She coordinated the outpatient orthopedic pre-operative training programs for Kaiser Woodland Hills’ Hip and Knee Replacement surgeries. She also supervised their post operative Knee Replacement exercise classes.

Over the last 10 years, Kathy has specialized in providing physical therapy to patients in their home setting. Ms. Lynch’s experience and expertise in age-related disease and injuries, cover problem areas such as balance disorders, strength deficiencies, and post surgical rehabilitation. Working with this group of mostly geriatric patients and helping them improve their functional levels and quality of life, has proven to be very rewarding.
